  18. <p>     Here in the States, Feminists argue that beauty pageants represent
  19. an insidious objectification of women. A recent contest held
  20. in South Africa has sent tempers flaring there too, but hardly
  21. for the same reason. The crowning of JACQUI MOFOKENG, 21, as
  22. the first black Miss South Africa caused hundreds of white citizens
  23. to phone radio stations and newspapers angrily protesting the
  24. choice and insisting that the voting must have been rigged.
  25. Judges in the contest were adamant that Mofokeng deserved the
  26. honor. And she insisted, "I'm going to win the hearts of all
  27. South Africans."
